Renewable Energy and World Population

There is a big need for solar panel installation.  By 2050, the world population is supposed to top 8 billion people.  The more the population grows, the more pressure is put on the environment, particularly where energy sources are concerned.  Fossil fuels are expected to be depleted to the point of exhaustion in just a few decades.  Some power sources such as wind power are great in some areas, but not so great in others, and require bulky infrastructure.   Living so far inland, we obviously can’t make use of tidal power.  So what’s the solution?

That’s where solar power comes in.  Arizona is home to a few solar start-ups and producers because of how much sunshine we get every year.  It is sunny almost year round in Arizona.    Solar power makes sense in a place like here.  The fascinating thing about solar is that even countries that are often overcast such as Germany are making use of solar power because of advances in technology.   Another fun fact about solar power is that if you placed about 200 square miles of solar panels in somewhere like north Africa, you could power the entire planet! And why are people so interested in solar?  Well it is clean energy.  It doesn’t produce any greenhouse gases, nor does it produce any pollution.  The panels are completely recyclable and last for years if not decades.  And if environmental concerns aren’t enough, there is also the money you can save on your power bill.

Solar Panel Installation and Your Light Bill

In our last article we covered using the sun to your advantage with an Arizona room.  Why not take that methodology a step further and make the sun work for you? That’s where solar comes in.

Installing solar panels makes long term financial sense.  After the first year, you can save between 20 and 30% off your utility bill.  This spread out over time is a lot of money, particularly in the summer when utility bills can easily top $400 a month or more.

The solar revolution is here.  You may even witness the disappearance of the power grid in the US as businesses and homes switch to  energy sources such as solar, and generate their own power.  Install solar panels today and ride the wave of change.

What Are Solar Solar Panels Made Of?

What are solar panels made of?  Well, most of them nowadays are made of amorphous polycrystalline silicon.  The beauty of solar panels is that they last  quite a while and are currently 97% recyclable.  And here’s something cool that you may not know about solar panels.  Ever watched a time-elapse film of a plant following the sun?

Tracker solar panels  are designed to follow the sunlight and get the maximum charge off the sun, a great idea copied from nature itself.  But what about solar panels that are fixed rack solar?

Fixed Rack Solar Panels

Let’s face it, if you live in Arizona, you most likely have a building that get’s some sunlight.  A fixed rack solar panel is placed according to Arizona’s position on the globe.  So, you can get maximum sunlight during both the winter and the summer months.  The nice thing about both types of solar panels is where you can put them.

Most people opt for putting them on their roofs, however, a great many apartment complexes and parking garages are placing them on their parking garages instead.  This makes an ingenious double use of space.  For one, it provides power to the building or buildings, and for another it provides shade to people.  If you have lived in Arizona long enough, you know that shade is something to aim for whenever possible, particularly in the summer. Here’s another fun fact about solar power. If you put the right sized mirror on the ground, it can boost the power output of a solar panel by up to 70%! Solar power isn’t just used down here, though.

Solar is used in outer space too. Look at the International Space Station or any satellite if you don’t believe us. It really is the energy of the future. So, what are you waiting for? Why not join the sustainable energy revolution and install solar panels today.

This concludes part three of our series. for more solar panel information, be sure to read part one and part two as well.

Solar Panels and Fun Facts About Them Part 2

Part two of our series on solar panel installation explores some more fun facts about them.

Using Solar Power

Solar Panel Installation | (480) 926-2300
Solar Panel Installation | (480) 926-2300

Even if you’re very old-fashioned, you may not know it yet, but you may already be using solar power.  Both Salt River Project and APS incorporate solar panels at some of their power plants across the valley.  Speaking of solar power plants, did you know there is a huge one out in California? It is impressive, however, there is an even bigger one being built in Arizona, as this article excerpt from Forbes shows:

The project, owned by NRG Energy NRG +1.21% and MidAmerican Solar, sits on 2,400 acres between Yuma and Phoenix. They hired Arizona-based First Solar FSLR +0.35% to build and operate the project, which also uses First Solar’s thin film solar panels that rely on a compound of cadmium-telluride to convert sunlight into electricity.Called Agua Caliente, the project will ship electricity to San Francisco-based Pacific Gas and Electric Co., which signed a 25-year purchase agreement. At maximum production, the project will generate enough electricity for about 230,000 homes. [READ MORE]

And if you think solar power is a passing fad, think again.  In fact demand for solar panels has for the first time in US history is exceeding supply.  All this in just a few short decades since they were released on the market in 1956!  Since there is increased competition in the solar industry, solar panels are also dropping quickly in price.  Giants such as First Solar are basing their headquarters in Arizona.  Solar power has been growing at an explosive rate, with 30% growth projected for the next decade or so.  It makes sense if you think about it, particularly in an environment like Arizona.

Solar Panel Installation and Energy Costs

Arizona is obviously famous for its hot temperatures and the sun.  Arizona is very sunny and a lot of people like to come here particularly during the winter as our state  has about 300 days of sunshine a year.  And during the summer months, the daylight hours last from 5am until 8pm at night.  Solar panels are a lot more powerful than they used to be as well.  The older model solar panels didn’t generate a tenth of the power they do now.  But newer generation panels produce a lot of power with very little space.

So remember, you want to help the planet.  Recycle when you can, and reduce the strain on the power grid.  One way that you can help is to install solar panels today.

Solar Panels and Fun Facts About Them

Solar panels used to be well below most people’s radar.  As a rule, it was the hardcore environmentalist types that installed them, or on the other end of the spectrum, the only other people who could afford them were research labs.  And it used to be that solar panels were very bulky, and almost half a foot thick.  And now it’s not just companies and private individuals that are jumping on the solar bandwagon, but governments as well.  Look at Germany for example.

Solar Panels Fun Facts

Germany used to use a lot of energy sources that were either coal powered plants, nuclear, or some other combination thereof, and there was little to no solar panel installation .  However, times have changed considerably.  In fact, 25% of Germany’s power is generated from renewable sources, of which 18% is solar.  This number is going to go up to 50% by 2050. Solar power can be used in a lot of ways. Did you know for example that you can cook your food by using a solar oven? It’s true and it is often a popular science fair exhibit. Solar power isn’t as new as you might think, either.

The ancient Greeks and Romans often situated their homes deliberately facing south so they could use the sun to heat their homes. If you think about it, magnifying glasses were one of the first attempts to use the sun’s power to start fires. And Albert Einstein even came up with a design for a photoelectric power node back in the day. Installing solar panels is just one more step in this history.

Solar Power and Safety

As to why people are considering solar panel installation, part of it is due to the laudable goal of energy independence. It’s estimated that by 2050, a lot of fossil fuels will be depleted to the point of exhaustion. Older nuclear power plants are dangerous and produce toxic waste, and as shown during the Chernobyl incident and Fukushima they can explode with devastating results.  And while thorium nuclear reactors show a considerable amount of promise, as do other fuel sources such as hydrogen.

Solar power isn’t for everywhere, of course.  Areas with a lot of clouds and overcast weather don’t do well with solar. However, technology is advancing considerably, as the demand for solar increases.  And modern solar panels are far more energy efficient than their predecessors are.   But there are several reasons to consider solar for your home or office including tax breaks, making a difference and more.  So give us a call and see if  solar panel installation is right for you.

Part two of a series on home additions explores solar panel installation.

Is it Time To Install Solar Panels?

Install Solar Panels Today | (480) 926-2300

Is it time to install solar panels?  Well, the answer to this question depends on your energy needs.    There’s a lot of  misinformation out there which can make it confusing.  However, here are some facts that you need to think about regarding solar power.

Solar power is the future. Why? Fossil fuels will be depleted to the point of exhaustion in this century. Fossil fuel exhaust is also a big cause of climate change.  Solar is abundant, clean, and most of all renewable energy.

Is Solar Power Cost Effective?

Some people wonder is solar power cost effective?  In the old days, solar was cost prohibitive.  However, now, solar makes excellent financial sense.  The price of solar has been dropping by 30% over the past couple of years.  In addition, solar is no longer confined to research labs and eco-friendly rich people.   With new technologies and new rebates and financing, the middle class and lower income families can also afford solar as well.

In addition, organizations such as government agencies, schools, and even corporations are going solar, which shows that it is more economically feasible than ever.  If you want to install solar panels, you are in very good company.  And powering your home via solar has gotten even cheaper.  Tempe based First Solar, for example, has solar power at $0.67 a kilowatt.  That is one key reason to go solar if you’re not swayed by environmental considerations:  cost savings.

As a home or business owner, you have to make decisions that are practical as well as cost effective.  And one of the best ones you can make?  Install solar panels today.

Solar Panels Part 1: Safe and Renewable Energy

Solar panel installation can help you to make a difference in one of the challenges we face in this century. In addition to desertification, water resources, and climate change, there is another problem we have:  sources of energy.  Part two of this series will cover solar power for homes, and part three will cover solar power for businesses.

Solar Power:  The Future?

Install Solar Panels and Save | (480) 926-2300

It’s estimated that fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas will be largely depleted within 50 years.  As we live in a technological society, we need more and more energy sources.  Nuclear disasters such as Chernobyl and Fukushima are still showing devastating effects on the environment.  Living in Arizona, we obviously do not have any access to tidal power, and wind power is at best a limited possibility.  With the water levels in reservoirs dropping, hydroelectric power will start to become prohibitively expensive.  However, we do have abundant sunshine, which is where solar panel installation in Mesa comes in.

The idea of near or total energy independence is very appealing.  With solar panels, you are not as reliant on power companies.  And with energy rates skyrocketing, that is a good thing.  It’s estimated that within the next 5-10 years, the cost of electricity in a three bedroom home will rise by as much as 30%.  And unlike coal power plants, or plants that use nuclear power, solar power is one of the safest sources of renewable energy around.  And solar is on the rise.

Solar Panels are Showing Up Everywhere

Solar panels are popping up on the roofs of corporate centers.  Covered parking awnings at ASU and throughout the Phoenix area are now starting to sport a new addition.  That’s right, solar panels.  Considering that parking awnings are almost always either angled or flat, they are a perfect place for solar.  The same holds true for the roof of a skyscraper. Even some vacant lots are starting to get solar panels.

Instead of looking towards the future with dread, why not look at it as a challenge to be overcome.  One of the challenges that we can beat is new sources of energy.  And solar panel installation is one of the best ways to start.

Solar Panel Installation: Eco-Friendly Energy for the 21st Century

Solar panel installation make sense in the 21st century.  Why?  Well, take a look at some of the challenges that we are facing..

Solar Panel Installation and 21st Century Challenges

Install Solar Panels and Save | (480) 926-2300

Climate change, desertification, and increasing energy demand are just some of the problems we face as a planet in this century.  However, increased energy demand causes an immediate problem for consumers, which makes solar panels highly sought after.  Why?  Well, here’s an  economics lesson for you.  What does increased demand for any service or product mean?  It means that the price for the service or product will almost certainly rise.  Fossil fuels are being rapidly depleted, and they are proven causes of environmental problems including pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.  So what’s the fix?  One way to resolve the problem is with clean renewable energy.

Renewable energy comes in many forms.  Wind power, tidal power, and hydrogen are some forms of energy that are cutting edge, but what about solar?  Solar panel technology has advanced significantly from the early days.  The old solar panels were incredibly bulky and extremely inefficient.  Modern panels are only two to three inches thick, and the solar cells in them are even thinner at only a few molecules thick.  Yet another reason to install solar panels in Mesa.

Solar Panel Installation:  A Good Energy Investment

Solar panels have dropped considerably since the old days.  Not so very long ago, solar panels cost $25,000-$50,000 to purchase.  Nowadays the price can be as low as $2,000.  Installation fees have also gone down as well.  The best reason of all is being able to gain energy independence.

Cooling a home in Arizona during the summer is expensive.  For a three bedroom home, the monthly electric bill can be as high as $500 per month.  However, with the addition of solar power, the price can start to drop significantly.  After about two to three years, your energy bill can reduced by almost 25%, and after a decade, by 80%.  So, as you see, solar panel installation really is the future, and the future is here.

Solar Panels: It’s More Than Just the Environment

Solar panels and the people who use them often have a reputation.  We know what  you’re thinking, however, you may be surprised at how solar has crept into the mainstream.

Solar Panel Installation and Arizona Life

Solar Power Installation (480) 926-2300

Not so very long ago on the scheme of things, if you mentioned installing solar panels, you got a lot of push back, and assumptions about who and what you were. People assumed you were some aging hippie living in a geodesic dome, eating nothing but a vegan diet and pure wholesome granola, surrounded by children with names like Wind or Star. However, times have indeed changed.

Corporate America is often the antithesis of environmental concerns, however, corporations all over the US have started to install solar panels in greater numbers. Why? Because of the cost savings. The federal government gives lucrative tax rebates to businesses that install solar power, and the power companies also pay for surplus power. And it isn’t just companies that are interested in the solar revolution.

Solar Panels and Arizona Homes

Arizona is sunny for about 9-10 months of every year. That is a LOT of sunshine. Isn’t it a good idea to take advantage of a limitless source of clean energy that is literally right outside your door? It used to be that solar panels were just for hot water heaters, but not anymore. People have started to install solar panels on a greater level than before. Cost savings is only a small part of it.

The environment is not under the carpet anymore. With glaciers receding, rising sea levels, and the fact that we are in an interglacial epoch, climate change will be one of the issues that defines the 21st century and even centuries to come. There are scores of websites out there with tips on how to reduce your carbon footprint, and one of the best ways may surprise you. That’s right, simply by opting for solar panel installation, you are making a difference towards our planet, our home.

So as you see, it’s not only about wearing tie-dye and flashing a peace sign. Now solar power is so much more than that.

Solar Power: Not Just About the Environment

If you install solar panels, you could end up with more than just a good feeling for helping to use renewable energy.  It can also make a significant difference with your wallet.

Grid-Tied Solar Panels and Cost Savings

Solar Panel Installation | Call Us Today | 480-926-2300

Most people know that if you install grid tied solar panels, you save money on your electric bill. What a lot of people don’t know is that if you are tied into the power grid and you generate surplus power, the electric company may pay you for the surplus power that you generate.

Solar panel installation also may bring you some money from the government. Under recent environmental legislation, there is a tax rebate if you install solar panels, and depending on various factors of course, the rebates can be fairly substantial: as high as $50,000 in some cases.

A lot of people are skeptical about this. After all, doesn’t solar power require an enormous amount of money to setup and put in?

Myths About Solar Power

Solar power requires a bit of investment, and that is how you have to think about it. There are very few things in the world for making money that do not require some sort of investment. What a lot of people don’t know is that there is often a return on your investment for solar that is fairly quick. With government rebates and cost savings on your power bill, in some cases, the savings can be astounding. Over three years, one of our customers made what he put down on the panels back plus an extra thousand dollars on top of it.

One of the problems that we will face in this century is going to be finding sources of energy that do not cause environmental damage. Carbon emissions from coal plants along with greenhouse gases are causing environmental problems. Fossil fuels are rapidly depleting. Nuclear power is potentially dangerous and produces waste products that are highly toxic. Installing solar panels in Arizona makes sense, both from an environmental perspective and a financial one.

First off, what is a solar panel?  Most people know the answer to that, but still, a good explanation from WIKIPEDIA is:

A solar panel (also solar module, photovoltaic module or photovoltaic panel) is a packaged, connected assembly of photovoltaic cells. The solar panel can be used as a component of a larger photovoltaic system to generate and supply electricity in commercial and residential applications. Each panel is rated by its DC output power under standard test conditions, and typically ranges from 100 to 320 watts. The efficiency of a panel determines the area of a panel given the same rated output – an 8% efficient 230 watt panel will have twice the area of a 16% efficient 230 watt panel. Because a single solar panel can produce only a limited amount of power, most installations contain multiple panels.

Placing a Solar Panel on a Patio Cover

Solar power requires exposure to the sun.  One of the best places to put a solar panel is on the roof, as there are usually no overhanging trees to block out the light, and they’re above anyplace where they can be damaged.  And a flat roof like a patio cover is almost perfect for them, particularly on a southern or western exposure.

Solar panel is a clean and renewable form of energy.  It helps to protect our planet, and save you more than a little money on your electric bill.  So what are you waiting for? Get the perfect combination: a patio cover topped by a solar panel installation.
